With selective entry and a strong tradition of excellence in traditional and emerging academic disciplines, Monash is an entrepreneurial, world-class institution. The University's research experience is outstanding, and it places a premium on quality undergraduate teaching.
The university offers a large number and wide range of subjects and courses across its 10 faculties and students can tailor a program to meet their academic and social needs. Monash's 10 faculties are recognized as national and international leaders in their fields. They offer innovative programs, based in the traditional disciplines and relevant in a modern, global context.
Located within our faculties are 37 research centres of national and international prominence, including the National Centre for Australian Studies and the Centre for Australian Indigenous Studies within the Faculty of Arts.
Clayton is the largest Monash campus located approximately 20 km from downtown Melbourne. There are five other campuses in Australia: Caulfield (near downtown Melbourne), Peninsula (by the sea), Gippsland (in the country, approximately two hours from Melbourne), Berwick (on the outer fringes of Melbourne) and Parkville (Pharmacy College in downtown Melbourne).

Melbourne’s population of almost four million are spread over a broad geographic area, from mountains and plains in the north of the city to dozens of bayside suburbs taking advantage of the views, restaurants and beaches found near Port Phillip Bay.
Beaches are located within an hour of most Monash campuses – a few minutes away from some – while some of Victoria’s most popular ski resorts are just three hours away. From fashion, food and fun downtown, to national parks, wineries and beaches in surrounding areas, Melbourne offers an excellent base for students.
Melbourne’s climate is temperate and is one of a few places in Australia that enjoys four distinct seasons. In summer, with many days frequently over 30 degrees Celsius, the city’s beaches are popular, while the mountains near the city are frequently snow capped during winter. Winter temperatures are cool to brisk with the average range from seven to 14 degrees Celsius.
The people of Melbourne love to celebrate, and this is reflected in the events that the city is famous for, including: Australian Open tennis, Australian Rules Football, food and wine festivals, Formula One Grand Prix, International Comedy Festival, Melbourne International Arts Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival and Spring Racing Carnival (including the renowned Melbourne Cup).
As one of Australia’s largest universities, Canadians enjoy the both resources and facilities available at Monash University and the diverse international student population on campus. The city of Melbourne is a key attraction for students from Canada, and students particularly enjoy attending Monash’s main, suburban campus, Clayton.
